How final grade calculator works
Our this free online final grade calculator (also called a calc) is for every student who needed before each exam week and before finals. As because they want to calculate that what there score will be after exam as last. The student can also calculate there overall class average after finalizing a test passed. With our tool ou can also weight your score and and also point-based calculation also you can do. There is quarterly and semester calculator also for college and universties students. High school, middle school, elementary and county school LMS can use it for one term, full year or yearly average.
Your current average is not considered as complete degree average as your all exams are not finalize. The average only tell us about the portion of the classes that are finished. The remaining classes weight remain as finalize.
In our tool Need on Final calculator you enter your current score, the result you want and how much your final is worth, That’s it. Click on Calculate My Grade and it will show you that how much percentage or score you needed into the final. And it also give you the hint also and also tell for each result that you need to get that percentage in final and for that result that percentage is needed it show you the structure in tablet format also for each score so that you can see clarity of your progress.
If you already given the final exam score then switch to Overall Grade and there you can calculate the total course average.
Note: All formulas and calculations are apply into the browser. Nothing is stored on a server and you also not needed any signup account to use this too. It is fully free for everyone. That things make our tool fast, private and easy to use as all things are in front of you. You can check for your class that what your score and you can plan a study time to achieve your score goal.
Final exam formula
Mostly courses uses the weighted average. If your current average is C and final is worth W and your target course average is G then formula is:
A 40% final means w = 0.40. The (1 – w) is the piece portion of the class that you have already completed. Multiply that by your current average to see how many course points you already hold. And then subtract that from your target, then divide by your final weight.
And if you already took the exam and you want to calculate the overall average then formula is below:
Here F is your final exam score. That has the same weighted-average math teachers use on a syllabous which contains the quizzes, midterms and the final each contribute a slice of the course.
Use correct current average
Always use the completed course work before the final is added. Some LMS gradebooks show a running average of the finished work, While some include ungraded final as a zero which get the displayed current average down.
What this calculator not predict
Our final grade calculator with percentages not forecast how you will perform. It is a predictor and simulator for hypothetical exam scores so you can see a prediction. It curves, extra credit, drop a low quiz, dropped quiz and assignments and teacher rounding can change the official mark.
Real Example:
For example if your current average is 85%. And you want to achieve the 90%(which is A in many education system). And the final exam is worth 40% of your whole course.
- Convert the weight: 40% -> 0.40, So 60% of the course is we already achieve
- Completed portion: 85 x 0.60 = 51 course points.
- Points still needed: 90 – 51 = 39.
- Divide by the final weight: 39 / 0.40 = 97.5%. that we needed to achieve our goal 90%.
If the calculator shown the percentage above the 100% then you can achieve your desired goal. That only achieveable by extra credits. Or you need to set your a less target to achive and need to do work hard. And if it returns a number in negative mean below 0% then it’s means that you already achieve target.
Weighted grades vs points-based grade calculator
A final calculator with weights calculaor has some percentage structore. There we divide the weight into different categories:
- Homework 20%
- Quizzes 15%
- Midterm 25%
- Final Exam 40%
That percentage i set into the calculator. That is shown to you. You can change the percentage also if to any category you want to give more or less weightage. Each category weight is multiply by the percentage that you entered then products are sum up. This weighting and averaging is how the average is calculated.
If the weights donot total as 100% then still our calculator tool give fair average from the weights that you entered and it estimate from what you need on leftover weight. e.g A 90% based on 60% of the course is not a locked result. We can add the remaining categories later on for as last model.
Use the category averages when you already combines homework, test and labs. If not combined and treated ad individuals like assignments, quiz, lab etc then use the Points Formula. Always don’t enter assignment average and category average value together as then score will be counted two times. And grades value can go above 100%.
A points-based calculator sometimes called as total points calculator. Here we not follow the category pattern. We add each thing individually. Like a 40 points for quiz, 10 points for home work. So both not have equal value so they not equal. Quiz will have more worth as because it has more points.
Both methods can include a final exam. In a weighted system the exam is based in percent. While in points system the exam is based on block of points. By knowing the remaining points and your target goal perentage our calculator can tell you that how many points you still needed. How Quarters, Semesters and 40/40/20 Pattern work
In many education institutes the semester average is calculate by two quarter grades plus an exam. The split is 40% first quarter, second quarter is also 40% and exam is of 20%. Some schools/collages use 45/45/10 formula. And some has 4 quarter of a year and count as 4. Some use 9 weeks marking period on the report card.
The quarter tab is a quarter calculator and a semester calculator in one: We pick a preset or school weights and add each component only once.
If your LMS already includes the final inside your quarter averge, Then you will not count the exam as separate window. Then only we count the quarters.
That’s how the result in education system show the grades on your transcripts by marking period. Each letter is converted to a percent and apply weights and then you will get the semester or the year average. See how to calculate your high school final grade and the quarter and semester guide for example to check it more deeply.
Letter grade and percentage table
This chart is a mostly much used U.S and some other countries. For scaling to converting a percentage to a letter grade and a 4.0 GPA value formula. Always check your syllabus for it. These tables also help for grade classification.
| Letter | Percentage | GPA |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 97-100% | 4.3 |
| A | 93-96% | 4.0 |
| A- | 90-92% | 3.7 |
| B+ | 87-89% | 3.3 |
| B | 83-86% | 3.0 |
| B- | 80-82% | 2.7 |
| C+ | 77-79% | 2.3 |
| C | 73-76% | 2.0 |
| C- | 70-72% | 1.7 |
| D+ | 67-69% | 1.3 |
| D | 63-66% | 1.0 |
| D- | 60-62% | 0.7 |
| F | 0-59% | 0.0 |

Online checker, predictor and other names
Students search this tool with many names. Some type calc, some type checker, finder, solver, analyzer, grade teller, grade weigher or grade projector. All these calculators are same math. You input your current avg, assignment marks and assessment marks. After calculating, the tool determine the potential score and the effect on overall so you can figure if you can pass. It is a rapid predictor and grade simulator for hypothetical finals score. This prediction help you plan study time.
Use it for a major course or a minor subject. Daily formative work and summative exams both can go in the weighted tab or the points (unweighted) grade book. 9 weeks period, one term, or full year – we cover that classification. After you check, match the letter on the report card with our chart and tables.
Frequently asked questions
How can we find out that what will be my final grade?
We take your current grade and also get your target achievent course. We subtract the current grade from the target course grade and then multiply by share of the class. Then devide by exam weight. On the table format you can also see all details as overall grade for several possible exam scores.
Why sometime calculator says i need more 100%?
With math formula to achieve the remaining weight its not possible. Either you need to add some credit so that you can achieve it or either you need to lower your target goal like from +A to A or -A etc. To checkout on which score you can reach checkout our table format that we share you above.
This Calculator is work for college and high schools?
Ofcourse Yes, College follow the category weights based on syllabous and that calculator we also provide and the High school classes they mostly use the quarter grade system and some use the midterm with the final exam system. So that also we explain and show you the calculator above. Normally Weighted and Need a Final calculator is used in High School LMS and Quarter and Points Calculator work on Colleges with as like 40/40/20 formulas.
What will be my class average with different assignments?
If we consider all assignment at same point scale and add the scores and devide by how many there are. And if the assignments weights are not equal. If there values are differeent then we will use the Weighted tab or the Points tab to calculate the class grade.
Can I use this calculator to predict my final grade?
Yes Ofcourse, You can check your final grade predict according to the current grade situation. You can try differnt final exam scores to see that how it affect on your overall course grade so by that you can understand what score you need to earn to reach your target grade.
Should We count the final exam if it shows as 0%?
No, If you not give the final exam, Then don’t count it as 0%. Some gradebooks show the final as 0% before you take it, which can make your grade look lower. At such condition use the Weighted tab.
How we calculate the weighted grade?
To calculate the weighted grade you need to multiply each category grade by it’s percentage weight. Then make sum of these and divide it by total weight that you entered. If the weight total is 100% then result is the completed weighted course grade.
How to calculate a semester grade?
To calculate the semester grade you need to use the quarter tab. There we have the semester 40/40/20. 45/45/10. Trimester, Year 20/20/20/20/20, 4 quarters without exam. That all calculator and also modify these values based on your current class system you can calculate the grade. There you multiply each semester/quarter etc by its percentage weight and them sum then and then divide by the total weight.
For Passing how much grade percentage we needed?
It’s depends from school to school and also thte country. Mostly U.S high schools and colleges use the 60% as for minimum passing ratio formula. However some colleges and even some courses requried is 70% minimum percentage to passout. So this thing depend on education system where you studing. In our calculator you can enter your min pas line as the target grade to use as a passing grade calculator.
